Miguel - "Do You" (2012)

From the mouth of ariellenyc:

I'm anti-clean versions of songs. There's only one track that should have a clean version and that's "Tipsy" by J-Kwon. This isn't about "Tipsy" or J-Kwon, though. A couple of weeks ago, I heard a radio edit so horrendous, it made me listen to the original ten times in a row to cleanse the memory.

The incident did, however, remind me that Miguel's 2012 "Do You…" is one of the greatest love songs of all time. Miguel asks the main question: "Do you like drugs?" And you don't even need to wait a second in suspense, because the very next thing he says is, "Yeah? Me too."

When you listen to oldies, there's something about R&B that's so charmingly direct. Marvin Gaye will say something as simple as, "you're all I need to get by," and it's the most romantic thing you'll ever hear.

I don't know if it's fair to compare the two, but as a Certified Drug Addict, Miguel wanting to do drugs with his lover is a pretty close second.
