Key Nyata (feat. Denzel Curry) - "Don't Tell Me"
There are plenty of rappers with underground credibility, but there are few rappers who are certified pillars of rap’s online underground like Key Nyata. For over a decade, the self-described “Cosmic Dad” has fathered countless styles, all from the hazy clouds of his native Seattle. Whether on the face or behind the scenes, Key was a foundational member and formative influence on some of the most forward-thinking collectives in rap history, from Raider Klan to TeamSESH, from Goth Money to GothBoi Clique, which developed out of Key’s collective THRAXXHOUSE.
Key can spit bars with the best of them, but at other times, he’s taken a more humble role, serving as a father figure to more than one generation of underground legends. His body of work reads like a rolodex of features from future stars. Before Vince Staples was a businessman with endorsement deals, before Denzel Curry was a visionary auteur, before Larry June was a critical darling, before Black Kray was a cult icon, they all worked with Key Nyata.
Now he’s back with a vengeance and a glossy new coat of candy paint to secure the bag that he always deserved, because his influence alone is undeniable and deserves to be repaid tenfold. The underground never got either of us paid: the ultraground will.
